      History

      Tumaini University Makumira is an institution founded by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania in 1947. In 1954, it was established as a Lutheran Theological College Makumira (LTCM). The college offered theological certificates, diplomas, and Bachelor of Divinity degrees. In 1997, the college was accredited by the Higher Education Accreditation Council (HEAC) under the Education Act of 1995 to include other disciplines as a constituent college of the then Tumiani University, and became known as the Makumira University College (MUCo). In 2011, MUCo was granted full-fledged status as Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), established under the Universities Act, 2005, and received its Charter on 2nd August, 2012.

      Tumaini University Makumira is a private university located in the town of Makumira, Poli ward, Meru District of Arusha Region in north Tanzania. It is an institution founded by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania in 1947. It maintains its vision of being a Christ-centred university for quality teaching & learning, research, public engagement, and outreach services for local and global social and economic needs.

      The holdings have been formed since the establishment of the institution in 1947. The archive preserves important documents of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, mission history, bibles and other documents from various international and local languages, academic dissertations etc.

      Archive Users: Registered TUMA students, TUMA University staff, Council Members , Alumni of TUMA. Outsider users needs a letter of introduction. Archive materials are not allowed to go outside.
